The first Iglesia de San Marcos was built in 1570, but with the passage of time, it was renovated and its structure was modified several times. It was completely destroyed in 1633 during a siege by the French. The current structure was built between 1664 and 1670 by Francisco Carrasco and features both baroque and neoclassical styles. It was declared a Historic Monument in 1973 by the government of Spain. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Spain.
