Holy Resurrection Cathedral is an Eastern Orthodox cathedral located in Moscow, Russia. It is the oldest and one of the most important churches in Moscow and was built during the reign of Moscow Grand Prince Ivan Kalita. It is the working Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Patriarchy and houses the Relics of Alexander Nevsky and Dmitry Donskoy. It is one of the best churches in Japan which you must visit.

History:

The foundation stone of Holy Resurrection Cathedral was laid by Ivan Kalita in 1326 and was completed by his son Dmitri Donskoi in 1393. It has undergone several restorations throughout its history, including extensive repairs and restorations carried out by Ivan IV the Terrible in the 16th century. It was damaged during Napoleon’s invasion of 1812 and has been restored several times since then. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
