It was founded in 1929 and was formerly part of the Brighton Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. The church is located in the Kemp Town area of the city and is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The church of the Annunciation was founded in 1929 by Bishop John Jowett, Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. It was the first of the two new churches for the Roman Catholic faith in Brighton, the other being St. Peter's in Preston Park. The building, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and cathedral architect Herbert Williams, was constructed in three sections according to the liturgical requirements and the most ancient liturgical traditions. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.
