Dedicated to Saints Blaise and Charles the Martyr, the church was originally constructed in the 15th century and was designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder. The church of Saints Blaise and Charles was first built on the remains of a chapel dedicated to St. Blaise in 1430. This chapel was later remodeled, constructed, and dedicated to both St. Blaise and St. Charles in 1599 by Pope Clement VIII. In 1850, the church was restored and expanded by Antonio da Sangallo, who added two side chapels. In the mid 19th century, it was again remodeled in the neo-Renaissance style. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.
