History
The Basilica of St Chrysogonus was first built around the 4th century, during the reign of Theodosius I. The basilica was then restored during the 10th century and was given to a Benedictine monastery by Pope Nicholas I. The original building of the basilica and monastery were destroyed by a fire in 1646. It was then rebuilt by Pope Innocent X in 1653.
