St. Elisabeth's Cathedral In Slovakia: History,Facts, & Services
St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral, also known as Blue Church, is a distinctive structure located in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was built in 1907–1913 in the Art Nouveau style. The parish served by the cathedral is that of the Transfiguration of Our Lord, and is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bratislava.

History:
The architectural project for the building was prepared by Frenchman Istvan Kalman Majos between 1907 and 1913 and it was meant as a rotunda. It was built in honour of Slovak aristocrat and philanthropist, Hungarian-born Elizabeth Fedorovičová. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovakia.

St. Elisabeth's Cathedral is 55m/180ft long, 57m/187ft wide, and the height of the dome is 23.1m/75.9ft. The exterior of the cathedral is made of light blue glazed ceramic tiles, which helped it to earn the nickname the "Blue Church". The interior is brimming with rich decorations and colorful mosaics, the combined efforts of 101 Slovak artists.
