The first church on the same spot was built in the 13th century, and dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. It was rebuilt in the late 17th century, and given its current name in 1787. In 1895, a new building was constructed, with a Neo-Gothic style. This building was destroyed during World War II, and the current Baroque church was built in its place between 1972 and 1981. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovakia.

The church has an impressive interior, and features a large crucifix located in the central nave. It also has Neo-Baroque and Rococo styled decorations, including a large Baroque pipe organ made by two master organ builders.
