Church of the Most Holy Savior (Jesuit Church) In Slovakia: History,Facts, & Services

The Church of the Most Holy Savior (also known as the Jesuit Church) is a Roman Catholic church located in Bratislava, Slovakia. The church was built in 1667 to commemorate the victory of the Catholic League in the Battle of Monocacy during the Thirty Years’ War. The Baroque structure was designed by architect Andreas Gallas and has been named a National Cultural Monument of Slovakia. The first Mass was celebrated in the Church of the Most Holy Savior around 1700. Through the centuries, the church has served as an important symbol of Slovak Catholic faith and identity, inspiring feelings of national pride throughout the country. The church is especially renowned for its Baroque decoration and its two central towers which stand out against the city skyline. The main altar of the Church of the Most Holy Savior is dedicated to the Holy Saviour and to St. Peter, with several side altars dedicated to different saints, some of whom offer protection from the bubonic plague and leprosy. The church is home to a variety of artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and frescoes. The Church of the Most Holy Savior is open to visitors throughout the week for services and for private reflections.
