St. Nicholas Basilica In Slovakia is a Roman Catholic church located in Nitra, Slovakia. The basilica is located in the Diocese of Nitra and is dedicated to Saint Nicholas, patron of fishermen and travelers. The current building was constructed in the late 17th century and is the largest baroque church in Slovakia.

History:
The first known mention of St. Nicholas Church is from 1137 and the building erected at that time was likely a Romanesque church. During the reign of Arpad kings in the 13th century could be already found as area of “St. Nicholas Burg”, mentioned in historical documents from 1270 and 1272. The earliest preserved core of the present basilica is from the 14th century. A stepped onion tower in late gothic style was added in the 15th century. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovakia.

The main entrance is located on the southern side, framed by a splendid portico. The main altar is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and a second altar, positioned on the southern side, is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows.
