The church was founded in the 19th century and is still in operation. The church is currently located at the intersection of Selmeckeho and Jasenica street. The Lutherans in Bardejov first came to live in the city in the 15th century. Initially, they lived in the city’s Jewish quarter, but due to frequent anti-Semitic attacks, they decided to leave and establish their own community. The church was built in 1836 as a result of this move. Initially, the church was a Roman Catholic Church and was a popular place for worship and prayer for many people in Bardejov. After the Second World War, the church was taken over by the state and was used for other purposes. It was eventually returned to the Lutheran community in 1992. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Slovakia.
