History:
The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1802, and the building was completed the following year. The church was consecrated by the Bishop of London in 1808. During Sierra Leone’s tumultuous years, the church was destroyed by a fire in 1824. It was subsequently rebuilt in a more robust style, with larger windows, stone pillars, and a stone tower. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Sierra-Leone.

Holy Trinity Church is widely considered to be the oldest Anglican church in West Africa. It also boasts the oldest Anglican bell that still rings in the continent, and it’s the oldest wooden building in Freetown. The church is a protected monument, recognized both nationally and internationally.
