History:
The Bonthe Baptist Church was founded in 1833 by Free Church of Scotland missionaries, Reverend William Fraser and Dr. Robert Boyd who arrived on Sherbro Island from Scotland. At the time, the Church was the only place of worship in the area. The initial congregation of the Church was made up of freed slaves and indigenous believers from the Sherbro people. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Sierra-Leone.
