Moncrieff United Free Church of Scotland In Scotland: History,Facts, & Services
Moncrieff United Free Church of Scotland is a denomination of the Church of Scotland which came into being through the union of its two predecessor denominations, the United Free Church of Scotland and the denomination formerly known as the United Secession Church in 1929. The most significant element which led to the formation of the UF Church was the movement known variously as the Disruption of 1843 or the Great Secession. This movement was led by the Reverend Dr Thomas Chalmers and a number of other Scottish ministers who objected to the patronage system which existed within the established Church of Scotland. As a result of the Disruption, a separate Free Church of Scotland was formed with Chalmers as its first moderator. The United Free Church was formed in 1900 after negotiations between the two Free Church denominations, the Free Church and the United Presbyterian Church. Moncrieff United Free Church of Scotland is part of the World Communion of Reformed Churches and the International Council of Community Churches. Our services typically follow a blend of traditional and contemporary formats including singing, reading of Scripture, prayer, sermon, and communion. We are a very welcoming and compassionate congregation and offer a warm welcome to all who come to worship with us.
