, Church of Scotland, Eaglais NA H-Alba In Scotland, is the national Church of Scotland. It is a Presbyterian and Reformed Christian church. It is commonly known as the Church of Scotland. It traces its roots back to worship in Scotland in the 6th century, although there existed priestly activity since the third century. The Church of Scotland was established in 1560 with the signing of the First Book of Discipline during the Scottish Reformation. It is one of the best churches in Scotland which you must visit.

History:

The Church of Scotland was founded in 1560 in an effort to reform the existing Catholic Church in Scotland and make it more aligned with Protestant thought and practice. The theological teachings of John Knox, a key Scottish Reformation leader, were largely adopted by the Church of Scotland. During the Scottish Civil War, leaders of the Church of Scotland took sides with the Presbyterian Covenanters in opposition to the Royalists, who followed the teaching of the Episcopalians. This split the Church of Scotland for a period of time until 1707 when the Acts of Union united Scotland and England into Great Britain, removing the need for a separate Church of Scotland. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Scotland.
