Architecture:
The architecture of Masjid al-Sultanah in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, dates back to its inception in 1090 AH (1679/1680 CE). The mosque was commissioned by Sultan Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Sa'ud. The current structure of the mosque was built in 1414 AH (1994/1995 CE). It is a symmetrical structure with four towering minarets at the corners and three round domes in the center. The mosque houses windows, doors and carved mihrabs that are decorated with Islamic calligraphy. The interior of the mosque is adorned with thick carpets, intricate wall hangings, and ornate paintings. The prayer hall of Masjid al-Sultanah has a capacity of 25,000 worshippers, making it one of the largest mosques in the world. The visiting hours of Masjid al-Sultanah in Jeddah are from dawn to sunset, seven days a week. During Ramadan, the mosque is open after sunset until dawn. Public transportation such as taxis, limousines, and buses are widely available to get to Masjid al-Sultanah from the airport. Taxis are the most convenient way of transportation, costing approximately SAR 55 (US$ 14.70). Limousines and buses are considerably cheaper options, costing around SAR 15 (US$ 4) on average. The mosque is located in the Al-Rawdah district and can be easily accessed by foot from nearby streets.
