Masjid al-Qasr al-Abyad is located in Medina, Saudi Arabia. It is one of the two major mosques in the city, the other being Masjid al-Nabawi. This mosque was built by the Mamluk Sultan An-Nasir Muhammad in 1389 AD and is considered to be one of the most important historical Muslim sites in the world. The mosque is built in a U-shape plan with a courtyard in the middle. It is surrounded by a high wall and features two minarets and three small domes on the east, west and south sides. The main prayer hall is located towards the east and is accessed via four doors, with three on the northern side and one on the southern side. The domes are located on the corners of the prayer hall. Inside, the walls are white marble and feature richly detailed and ornate decoration typical of Mamluk architecture. The mosque is also home to a cemetery, which includes tombs of several prominent Islamic figures such as Sheikh Abu Hamdah al-Walid, a famous companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The mosque is still used for prayer today and was renovated in 2013. In addition, the mosque has been extensively restored in recent years and a new mosque, Al-Masjid al-Qasr al-Abyad, was built next to it in 2009.
