History:

 TheGros Islet Methodist Church is part of the Methodist Church of St. Lucia, formerly the Methodist Circuit of St. Lucia-Grenada, an affiliate of the United Church of Canada. It was founded in 1813 by two Methodist missionaries, John Knight and John Greer, who came to the island from Barbados. The first service was held in the home of Thomas Mathurin, a freed Papman from Barbados. By 1824 it had grown so large that a building had to be constructed, and the church opened its doors to the public for the first time on June 8th. Since then, the church has continued to be an important part of the local community, providing an important spiritual and social resource for many generations.
