Tver State Art Gallery was founded in 1835 by the initiative of architect Felice Andrian Galberg, who also designed its neoclassical building in the center of the city. Initially, the museum held just a few works of art, mainly objects associated with the restored icon painting school of the city, but over time its collections significantly expanded. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.
