The building has been Grade II listed since May 1, 1975, which indicates that it is of special national interest. History:

The foundation stone for St Mary Magdalen, Chapelfields was laid on 12 April 1883 and was blessed by Bishop Rider of Coventry. The first Mass celebrated in the church was held on 11 April 1886, and the first baptism was on the same day. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in England.

The church is built of Coventry Red Sandstone and the nave stretches to approximately 88ft long and 40ft wide. There are three Gothic arches at the centre which symbolise the Holy Family and create the main entrance. The main tower stands at 100ft tall with a peal of eight bells.
