St John’s Parish Catholic Church is a parish of the Catholic Archdiocese of Dubuque located in Oelwein, Iowa. The parish was established in 1878, making it the oldest parish in Fayette County. It is one of the best churches in USA which you must visit.

History:

St. John’s Parish was established in June of 1878 by Father Thomas O’Reilly. After the parish was established Father O’Reilly, who had been traveling the towns and villages of the area, began to build a small frame church in July of 1878. The building was completed by early September of the same year. This was the first Catholic church established in Fayette County. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.

The first Mass celebrated in the parish was on September 9, 1878. In August and September of 1878 Father James O’Reilly had completed and dedicated the church. The original church was only 22 by 30 feet and the pews were not permanently fixed in the building. The current church, which is a combination of three churches, was dedicated in November of 1997.
