The Pyramid of Menkaure's wife Khamerernebty II stands at the Giza Necropolis in Egypt. It is thought to have been built during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom in the late 25th century BCE. The pyramid is 15 metres square at the base and about 10 metres high and it contains a small complex of chapels, a causeway and stairways. Its main features include a large white limestone casing which had reportedly been coated with stucco plaster for decoration, a pink granite pyramidion on the apex and inner chambers for storage of the deceased's supplies. This structure also has a unique feature: a sixth niche in the northern wall which is thought to have contained a statue of the deceased queen. The original entrance is believed to have been hidden and was blocked up with stones when it was no longer in use. The pyramid of Khamerernebty II at Giza in Egypt is thought to be the oldest of the wife pyramids built at the Giza site. It was built around 2550 BCE during the reign of Pharaoh Menkaure, the fourth pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty. The pyramid is thought to have been the funerary monument for Khamerernebty II, the most important wife of King Menkaure. She is also thought to have been one of Menkaure's four other principal wives, further attesting to her importance to the royal family. The pyramid of Khamerernebty II was constructed using limestone blocks, which formed a stepped core structure. It was originally enclosed by a mud-brick wall, and later by a thicker limestone wall. Its base is stepped and square, rising to a height of around 10 meters (33 ft). Its angle of slope is between 51° and 53°, and it had an originally-planned entrance on the east side, framed by two false doors. Despite its small size, the pyramid was very well-decorated, with galleries of statues, colored reliefs, and inscriptions along the inner walls. These decorations indicate that Khamerernebty II was an important and honored member of the royal court. Today, the Pyramid of Khamerernebty II is badly eroded, but it still has much of its original shape intact and is one of the most visible of the Giza Pyramids.
