The Pyramid of Khentkaus I is an ancient Egyptian royal tomb located at Giza, near the Great Pyramid of Giza. It was originally built as a mortuary temple of the Dynasty V Pharaoh Khentkaus (Khentkaus) I, a powerful female ruler who briefly assumed power during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. The Pyramid of Khentkaus I is one of the oldest surviving pyramids in Egypt and one of the few pyramids built by a female ruler. It has a relatively small base of just 8.2 meters and a height of 14.2 meters. The burial chamber is located beneath the pyramid, rather than at the apex of the structure, and also unusually contains a small sarcophagus thought to be that of Khentkaus' son.
