History:

Peterhof was built as a summer estate and residence of Peter the Great. In 1723, a royal decree tasked the court Architects Rastrelli, Mezentsov, and Fontana with the design and construction of a grand palace and extensive park grounds, which contain many buildings and water features. The design and landscaping principle, formal symmetry and vertical axis, were inspired by the Palace of Versailles in France. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Russia.
