Our Lady of Guadalupe - Church of Buen Tono In Mexico: History,Facts, & Services

Our Lady of Guadalupe - Church of Buen Tono is a form of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary in Mexico. It is located in the town of Buen Tono, in the state of Michoacán. This beautiful Catholic Church was constructed between 1761 and 1771 and was given its name by Father José de Jesús. It's now a popular pilgrimage site for many Mexican Catholics, particularly those from Michoacán. The church is a short stone structure with a single bell tower and simple architecture. The main facade is framed by two large, pointed arches, and is adorned with the traditional figure of the Virgin on the archway and the image of Christ blessing beside it. Within the church, visitors can find several intricately painted frescos honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe. The main altar features a large, sealed, gilded casket that contains the remains of a priest. Outside the church are shrines and small chapels that honor other saints, including St. Peter, St. Joseph and St. Anthony. Visitors will also find an image of the Virgin Mary at the entrance of the church, carved in over a thousand pieces of sandstone. Every December, the church holds a six-day celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Every Saturday, the church holds Mass and other religious services, as well as activities for children and adults. As a pilgrimage site, visitors leave offerings for the Virgin Mary, including flowers, candles and other gifts.
