Langenæs Church is a Baroque-style building built in 1701 in the Aalborg area of Denmark. It is the oldest still-standing church in Denmark. The impressive masonry building displays two symmetrical curved side annexes that lead to the square-shaped church building. The interior of the church is characterized by exposed brick walls, a vaulted ceiling, and a classical style-organ. Langenæs Church History The Langenæs Church was constructed in 1701 as part of the town’s plan to rebuild after a devastating fire in 1702. The original design of the church was attributed to the master mason Jan Pedersen and involved the recruitment of skilled builders and masons from Germany, England, and Norway to complete the project. The completion of the church took two years, and it eventually became an important symbol of Langenæs’s status as the political center of the region. This places the kirke (sanctuary) in the center and the four-sided nave surrounding it.
