History:
The JELC traces its roots back to the mission of Augustana Lutheran Church, which arrived in Japan in 1895. This mission focused on evangelism and established a network of churches and educational institutions. The JELC was officially established in 1958, when the Augustana Lutheran Church merged with a small German Lutheran mission. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Japan.
