The church was founded in 1884 by 13 local people and a pastor from Arkansas. The first services were held in a rented schoolhouse. That same year, a permanent building was constructed on Central Avenue. By the 1950s, the membership had grown so large that the church moved to a new building on Robinson Street, and then later to a Sunset Drive facility in 1964. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in USA.
