The church was built in accordance with the Italian Baroque style and features an egg-shaped dome and two bell towers. The Church of Saint John Baptist was founded by Bishop Sebastián Fernández de Agüero in 1625. Originally a convent church, it underwent several renovations and reconstructions over the centuries. In 1886, the church was declared as a National Monument in Spain. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Spain.
