History:

The Catholic Church of Nirasaki was founded as a mission of the Holy See in 1926. It was only in 1977, however, when the present building was constructed. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Catholic Church’s establishment in Japan and was designed by Italian architect Angelo Parella. The church was initially set up as Sacred Heart Church, but in 1978 it was renamed Catholic Nirasaki Church.
