The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the oldest Catholic parish in the city of Atlanta, Georgia, located in the Sweet Auburn neighborhood. Founded in 1879, this landmark church was originally based on Gothic and Baroque styles, but with renovations in 1929, the Neo-Gothic style building with Neo-Romanesque accents was completed. The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus contains stunning stained-glass windows, three historic organs, and a beautifully painted ceiling. It is one of the best churches in Mexico which you must visit.

History:

The early settlers of Atlanta moved to Sweet Auburn in the mid-19th Century and dreamed of building a beautiful church to house their growing population. Bishop Thomas Andrew Blessing acquired funds for the construction of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and it was dedicated in 1879. In 1929, the Gothic building was renovated adopting the Neo-Gothic style and four Neo-Romanesque turrets were added to the building. The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has been in continuous use since its dedication and continues to serve the Catholic community of Atlanta today. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mexico.
