History:

The Baikal Museum was founded in 1914 in the city of Irkutsk, Russia. It was established by Russian botanist Petr Fersman, as part of his efforts to analyze and investigate the immense resources of Lake Baikal. It is devoted to documenting and displaying the region’s natural and cultural heritage. In 1939, the museum moved to the village of Listvyanka, located on the south western shore of Lake Baikal. It officially opened its doors as the Baikal Museum of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1985.
