Museo Nazionale Romano – Crypta Balbi is an archaeological complex located in Rome, Italy. It consists of the Crypta Balbi, a cryptoporticus constructed during the 1st century BC, and the adjacent church of Santa Maria in Monticelli, part of the early Baroque complex of Santa Maria in Campo Marzio. The Crypta Balbi was opened to the public in 2001 as a branch of the Museo Nazionale Romano. The Crypta Balbi is one of the most important archaeological sites in the city of Rome. It contains the remains of an ancient theater built in the 1st century BC, a thermal bath complex, the remains of the Institute of Roman law professors, and a Roman reservoir. The church of Santa Maria in Monticelli was constructed in 1611 and was the first Baroque church in Rome. The Crypta Balbi is home to some of the best preserved Roman remains in the city. It is also home to several important archaeological finds, including a marble copy of the Statue of Liberty, and several Roman coins and pottery. The site is open to the public and contains a small museum and a café. Visitors can explore the archaeological remains and admire the beauty of the complex. It is a great place to learn about the history of Rome and the lives of its inhabitants.
