History:

The museum was founded in 1574 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Cosimo I de Medici. He called upon the famous Renaissance architect Giorgio Vasari to build it. Vasari created the U-shaped building and filled it with collections from the Medici family. The museum is open to visitors every day of the week except Mondays. Opening hours are 9:00am-7:00pm Tuesday-Saturday and 10:00am-7:00pm Sundays. Admission is €8 for adults, €5.50 for students and children aged 6-18, and free for children under 6 years old. Visitors can also purchase a combined ticket to visit the Uffizi Gallery and the museum for €12.
