History:
The church's original architect, Pietro da Cortona, was entrusted by Pope Lucius III with the task of designing a church for the Augustinians near the Piazza Navona in Rome. The façade is an example of Mannerist architecture and Pietro’s work inspired the works of many other architects. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Rome.

Chiesa di Santa Maria della Pace is a popular destination for visitors to the Piazza Navona area. The 17th century facade was redesign in 1935 by the prominent Italian architect and urban planner Marcello Piacentini. The inside of the church also features frescoes painted by a select group of Renaissance painters, including Raphael, Pomarancio and Lanfranco.
