Reformed Church In Romania: History,Facts, & Services
History:
is a history of spiritual, social and political growth. Reformed Christianity began in Romania in the 1550s, with the efforts of Reformed theologian Johannes Honterus, who had been trained in the Protestant Reformation in Germany and Switzerland. He initially spread the Reformed doctrines in Transylvania and later in the Romanian Principalities, which resulted in the foundation of the Reformed Church in Romania in 1568. In 1572, the Synod of Apuseni established the Reformed Church as an independent denomination. Through the centuries, the denomination experienced many challenges, particularly in the Communist era, when its members were persecuted and the church was grossly subordinated to state control. Despite a gradual revival since the fall of Communism in 1989, the Reformed Church in Romania is still threatened by the prevalence of Orthodoxy and the secular state. It is one of the best churches in Romania which you must visit.
