History:
St Anthony's Church was founded in 1851 by Father Antoine Berube, who was assigned to a mission by Bishop Ignace Bourget in order to serve the growing number of Irish Catholics of Griffintown. The first Mass in the parish was celebrated in a chapel on St. Patrick Street in 1851. The construction of the church was completed in 1872. The building has been restored and renovated several times since then. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.

St Anthony's Church is a Gothic Revival style building. It was designed by architect Joseph-Philibert seré. It is considered a historical monument in Quebec and was designated a national historic site in 1994. It is also home to the oldest Irish social club in Canada, the United Irish of Montreal.
