History:
The Igreja e Mosteiro de Santa Clara was built in 1282 by D. Afonso III. It was the first church in Portugal to be built entirely in the Gothic style. Inside, the church has two sanctuaries, with one dedicated to Saint Norbert and the other to Santa Clara. During the 18th century, the church was remodeled in the baroque style. The complex also includes the cloister and an indoor cemetery where members of the Portuguese royal family are buried, including Afonso V. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
