Church Nossa Senhora da Conceição Velha is a historic church located in the city of Porto, Portugal. It is one of the oldest churches in Porto and was declared a National Monument in 1910. The church was first built in a Romanesque-Gothic style at the beginning of the 13th century. Later changes were made to the building in later centuries, such as a Baroque bell-tower in the left wing. It is one of the best churches in Portugal which you must visit.

History:

The origin of Church Nossa Senhora da Conceição Velha dates back to the first half of the 13th century. It was part of the group of churches that constituted the Ancient Monastery of São Domingos de Bonfim founded by D. Afonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal. The church was initially a dependent parish of the monastery, with its own parishioners, chapel, and furnishings. In 1870, the interior of the church was modernized, making several changes to the structure and pouring cement over the stone façade. In 1908, some of these changes were undone, and the building was returned to its original Romanesque-Gothic style. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
