The church is dedicated to Saint Bartolomeu and was built in 1923 as part of a plan of expansion of housing in the area. It is one of two churches in the Diocese of Setúbal of the Church of Portugal.

The construction of Igreja de S. Bartolomeu began in 1923 and was completed in 1927. It was designed by the Portuguese engineer José Mariano Moutinho and is built in a Neo-Roman style. The altar of the church was designed by the Portuguese sculptor João Cutileiro, and Features: Igreja de S. Bartolomeu features a central nave, a sanctuary, a bell tower, and a library. The central nave is decorated with beautiful stained-glass windows, a wooden ceiling, and a marble floor. The sanctuary is the main part of the church and contains the main altar, tabernacle, and a choir. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Portugal.
