The first records of a cathedral in Braga go back to the year 1071, when Countess Mumadona Dias, the founder of the city, ordered the construction of the Cathedral of Braga. Initially, the Cathedral was built with a Romanesque style and was later renovated in the 16th century with the addition of a baroque tower that was later destroyed.
