Wat Phuttha Panya is a large Theravada Buddhist temple located in the town of Ban Pong, in the southern province of Ratchaburi. The temple is known for its unique blend of Thai, Chinese, and Lanna architectural styles, as well as its impressive collection of Buddhist artifacts and artwork.
Facts:
Wat Phuttha Panya was built in the 15th century and is home to one of the largest collections of Buddha statues in Thailand. It also contains several chedis, or marble towers, each of which houses a relic of the Buddha. In addition, the temple also has several Buddhist texts and artifacts, including a copy of one of the oldest editions of the Buddhist scriptures.
History:
Wat Phuttha Panya was originally founded by a Burmese missionary in the 15th century. Throughout its long history, the temple has been a center of Theravada Buddhism, and has served as an important hub for Buddhist teaching and worship.
Travel:
Wat Phuttha Panya is located in the town of Ban Pong, about two hours from Bangkok. It is open to visitors daily from 7:00am-9:00pm. There is no charge to enter the temple grounds and visitors may take photos of the architecture and artwork inside.
