Overview:
The Wat Phu Manorom complex is located on a large islands in the Mekong River. The main building is an impressive pagoda, made of stone and surrounded by an ancient wall. While most of the structures are in a state of disrepair due to neglect, there is still much to see in the complex. Facts:
The complex is one of the largest ancient Temple complexes in Southeast Asia. The main temple is composed of four courtyards, each representing a different area of Buddhist teaching. The four courtyards represent the four aspects of Buddhist life - Vipassana, Samadhi, Pratimoksha and Vinaya. The temple is also home to several statues and sacred relics, including a replica of the Emerald Buddha. Wat Phu Manorom
History:
Wat Phu Manorom was founded around the turn of the twentieth century, making it one of the oldest living temples in the country. It is believed to have been built by a local monk and spiritual leader, who had a vision of creating a place of peace and spiritual education. Over time, the temple expanded and became a popular site of pilgrimage and faith for Buddhists in Laos and elsewhere. Wat Phu Manorom
Travel:
Few travelers make it to Wat Phu Manorom, due to its remote location. However, it is possible to venture to the site, either by boat or car. If traveling by car, it is important to note the roads can become incredibly muddy during the wet season, making it difficult to access. Unfortunately, there are no tour guides available at the complex and it is recommended that visitors take a guidebook to learn more about the site.
