The temple is also the host of a large festival in the region called Bun Bang Fai.
The temple consists of several structures, including an inner complex containing the main shrine hall and an outer complex that includes chedis, pagodas, and other religious buildings. The temple walls are covered with intricate murals depicting scenes from Buddhist philosophy and mythology.
At the center of Wat Phra Phutthabat is the Phra Phutthabat Sri Chom Tong, which is a large Buddha image created from seven different types of silver. It is the main image of worship at the temple, and it is believed to bring good fortune to those who worship it. Each year during the Bun Bang Fai festival, the image is carried by a group of men through the streets of Yasothon.
