Wat Chom Phu Wek was abandoned in 1767 when the Burmese army invaded Ayutthaya and destroyed the city. It has since been restored and is now a popular tourist attraction.

Wat Chom Phu Wek is easily accessible, as it is located less than an hour outside of Ayutthaya City. The temple can be accessed via tuk-tuk, private taxi, or rented motorbike. Visitors should note that the temple is closed on Sundays.
