History:

The first records of human settlement in the area date from as early as the 1950’s when Hâu Thành District was established. However, since then, the population has significantly increased due to the influx of refugees from Cambodia and Laos. This has resulted in deforestation, overgrazing, and the degradation of the natural environment. In 1998, the Government of Vietnam established Phu Si Than Wildlife Sanctuary in order to protect the limestone karst ecosystems and the wildlife species found in the area.
