Discover - Wat Phu Khao Thep Nimit - Fact, History and Travel Information
Wat Phu Khao Thep Nimit (Thai: วัดภูเขาเทพนิมิต) is a Buddhist temple located in Mueang Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. It was built in the year 242, making it one of the oldest temples in the country. The temple is dedicated to Phra Phutthabat – a figure in Thai Buddhism which is believed to bring good luck to all who visit the temple. It is one of the primary places of pilgrimage for Buddhists in Thailand and is known for its rich history, beautiful architecture, and spiritual importance.
The temple is built upon a large hill, which gives the temple its name, ‘Phu Khao Thep Nimit’ – ‘Thep Nimit Hill’. The temple complex is split into two sections: the lower level and the upper level. The lower level includes several smaller structures such as a smaller ordination hall, a redemptive hall, and a golden stupa. The upper level of the temple contains the main ordination hall, in which the main Buddha image is housed, and the main stupa, which stands at the highest point of the hill.
Wat Phu Khao Thep Nimit is an important site for religious ceremonies, festivals, as well as being home to a thriving monastery. A significant annual event is the Phra Phutthabat fair, a seven-day celebration which takes place in October. During the fair, locals and tourists gather to pay respects and make offerings to the sacred Buddha image. The temple is a popular tourist attraction, and can be easily accessed by taxi.
