The Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Phu Nhai was built in 1928 in Phu Nhai, a small province in North Central Vietnam. The grand construction was done to honor the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, which is a popular Catholic concept taught by the church. The Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Phu Nhai has two bell towers and two main arches with five columns. The main hall is the largest in Vietnam, stretching to 140 meters long and 45 meters wide. The basilica contains a lot of sacred relics and religious symbols, including the relics of a saint presumed to be St. Joseph the Worker, and beautiful stained-glass windows which the shows the joyous childhood of the Virgin Mary.
History:
The construction of the Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Phu Nhai was initiated by Bishop Alexandre de Rhodes and was commissioned by Pope Pius XI. Construction was completed in 1928, making it one of the oldest Catholic churches in Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, the church was damaged and later renovated in 1993.
