Chachapoyas Citadel is a ruined citadel located at the top of a mountain in Chachapoyas, Peru. The citadel was built by the Chachapoyas people, an ancient pre-Incan civilization also known as the Warriors of the Clouds, who inhabited the area in the 8th century and lived until the 13th century. Built for defensive purposes, the site is surrounded by high, steep peaks and walls, with three entrances that contain stairways leading to terraces on the highest parts of the ruins. The walls and tower ruins still remain today, along with some of the tombs and mummies of the Chachapoyas people. It is one of the most beautiful monuments in Peru

The Citadel was a fortress and city on a mountaintop constructed by the Chachapoyas people between 500 and 1500 CE. It is an impressive structure consisting of more than 400 roundhouses surrounded by imposing walls, 20 meters (66 ft) tall and 12 meters (40 ft) thick. The site had likely been occupied prior to the Chachapoyas people. It was an important center in the region for hundreds of years, and archaeological evidence suggests it was an important religious, political, and economic hub for several centuries. It was once populated by thousands of people, who allegedly lived in luxurious comfort. The Chachapoyas are believed to have been a peaceful people whose main occupation was agriculture.
