Zacchaeus and the Apostle Andrew convent for the Coptic Orthodox In Palestine is an ancient Ethiopian Orthodox Monastery located in the city of Beit Jala near Bethlehem in the West Bank, Palestine. It is believed to have been built by the first century Zachariah the prophet, son of the “Apostle to the Nations”, Apostle Andrew, and was established in the 4th or 5th century. It was one of the first monasteries of the Coptic Orthodox Church and served as one of the primary spots of Christian learning and education in Palestine. The monastery was destroyed several times by Islamic forces, and was ultimately re-built and re-established in the 19th century. Today, the monastery is an important and popular pilgrimage destination for both Coptic and non-Coptic Christians. It provides services such as spiritual retreats, worship services, and conferences as well as hospitality services for visitors.
