The current church building dates to the 19th century and was built by the Russian Orthodox Church. History:

St. Mark’s Church was constructed in the late 19th century by the Russian Orthodox Church. It was built on the site of a previous four-domed Byzantine monastery that was destroyed in the 6th century. The current building was restored and renovated in 1902 and was used to host back to back services of the Orthodox and Catholic Churches. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Palestine.
